The Dashing White Sergeant
Groups of three facing all forming oval around dance floor (Queen Mother's Reel version)-difference is teapots with spare facing 3rd person instead of turn- Lines of three facing each other (1 man between 2 ladies or 1 lady between 2 men) All six hold hands in circle four Traveling steps to left and four back again Center man/lady sets to person on right and right hand teapot of 3 including the spare person in the 3 opposite Set to the person on the left and left hand teapot including the other spare person in the 3 opposite Each line join hands and advances towards other line, stamps feet and retreats Both lines advance again, one line raising hands to allow the other line to pass through and face new line. REPEAT


Gay Gordons
Couples facing line of dance forming oval around dance floor

Allemande hold (man’s right hand holds lady’s right hand behind her shoulder)

Walk forward four steps half turn four steps going backward REPEAT

now back in original position man walks forward turning lady right hand with right (8 bars)

waltz or polka round (8 bars) REPEAT


Eightsome Reel
Four couples forming a square (lady on right side of male partner)

Four couples circle round clockwise and back with Traveling step

Cartwheel Clockwise with ladies joining hands in center, man with arm around partner’s waist 4

then reverse, men’s hands in center ladies on the outside (traveling step)

Set to partner twice and turn (two Hands) twice and swing straight out to next person with your LEFT hand out to form the Grand Chain: each person giving alternate hands to others (men going anti-clockwise and the women go clockwise) Everyone ends up in their original place in the square

Each person goes into the middle alone in turn (1st lady from couple nearest band first) the others join hands in a circle 4 Traveling Steps to the left and 4 back again

Person in middle sets to and turns partner (two hands) , then sets to and turns the man or woman opposite

The three persons involved then do a figure of eight. Same person remains in the middle and repeats with the other men or women. The next person moves into the middle of the square.

Set to Partners twice and turn twice

Grand chain

Swinging with partner reverse grip until music finishes


Duke of Perth Country Dance
Four couples men in one line facing lady partner

1st couple turn (RH crossed forearm clutching elbows) once; cast down one place

1st couple turn each other (LH) turn (RH) 1st corners (MEN GO DOWN LADIES GO UP) turn partner (LH)

turn 2nd corners (RH) turn partner (LH)

Set to and turn (2 Hands) 1st corners set to and turn (2 Hands) 2nd corners

Figure of eight on sides with corners the lady ends up between the two men & vice versa

Same couple repeat once more with the next two couples and then steps down to the end of the set Ladies always cast behind ladies Men behind men

Couple 2 now at the top then commences with couples 3 & 4

Four couples men in one line facing lady partner

1st lady sets to 2nd man, turns (2 hands) 3rd man

1st man sets to 2nd lady, turns (2 hands) 3rd lady and joins hands with 3d couple facing up (meanwhile 1st lady has gone behind 2nd man and joins hands with 2nd couple face down)

Each threesome moves forwards then retreats

1st couple then turn (2 hands) 1 ¾ times round the man placing the lady between the two men

Leading man joins hands between ladies 2 and 3 Leading lady opposite joins hands with men 2 and 3

Forward then retreat

The leading couple then turn (2 hands) 1 ½ times the man placing the lady between lady 2 and 3

The three active couples join hands in a circle and four traveling steps left clockwise and four back

The leading couple are now placed below couple 2 and start again with couples 3 and 4

After 2nd time they step down to the end of the set of 4 allowing couple 2 to dance with 3 & 4


Reel of the 51st Division
Four couples men in one line facing lady partner

1st couple set and cast down two places

Man leads Lady up middle and presents to 1st corner and then turns to face his corner

1st couple sets to 1st corner and turns (RH Policemans halt)

keeping right hands held the leading couple then hold left hands (policemans halt) with each other forming a diagonal line across

swing partner

Ist couple sets to 2nd corner and turns (RH Policemans halt)

keeping right hands held the leading couple then hold left hands (policemans halt) with each other forming a diagonal line across

swing partner

man back between the men lady between the ladies

Circle 4 traveling steps to right and 4 back Repeat once more & step down for Couple 2 to start


Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh
Four couples men in one line facing lady partner

Couples 1,2 & 3 Holds hands forward and back clap turn partners (2Hand)

1st couple Bollards around couples 2 & 3 own sides

Tea pots of 3, once round, right handed (1st lady with 2nd couple 1st man with 3rd couple)

1st couple change places 1st lady down to the 3rd couple as 1st man passes up to the 2nd couple

Tea pots of 3 once round left handed

Leading couple then turn corners (RH crossed forearm) (MEN GO DOWN LADIES GO UP)

Leading couple then turn ¾ (LH) in the middle

Leading couple then turn opposite corners (RH) 1st lady/man ending up betwn lady/man 2 and 3

Circle (4 traveling steps) to the left and then back

1st couple repeat once more then step down to the end of their set allowing couple 2 to start with couples 3 and 4


Inverness Country Dance
Four couples men in one line facing lady partner
1st and 2nd couple RH teapot of 4 once round then change to LH teapot back

2nd man takes 2nd ladies right hand and leads her down the middle four traveling steps followed by 1st couple Both couples turn inwards 2nd couple go under 1st couple returning to the top position. 1st man then presents 1st lady to 2nd man and faces himself to the 3rd lady Both couples set and turn (2 Hand) Repeat with opposite corners

1st lady then stands between Couple 2 facing down 1st man between couple 3 facing up set twice and turn (2 Hands) the 1st man than places the 1st lady between lady 2 and 3 and puts himself between Man 2 & 3

1st couple then repeats with couple 3 and 4 and then steps down to the end of their set allowing couple 2 to start with couple 3 then 4.
